This aquarium plant is called “moss ball”, however it is actually a ball of green Algae. Cladophora aegagropila, also known as “Marimo”, is a slowly growing algae. It occurs in clean lakes where it forms flat cushions as well as hollow balls rolling about the ground, formed by waves in the shore zone. In the aquarium moss balls are decorative in the foreground and midground.
